Canal Dock Boathouse
New Haven, Connecticut, 2009-Present
The Canal Dock Boathouse will be a new community rowing facility located at a historically significant site on New Haven Harbor. DSA’s work as the interpretive design architect fulfills the project’s requirement for historic mitigation due to the demolition of the former Adee Boathouse (b. 1912) for new bridge construction. The interpretive design consists of four elements: a harbor map pavement design; timeline; view finders; and a permanent exhibition of the history and salvaged parts of the Adee Boathouse. This project is funded by the Federal Highway Administration and the Connecticut Department of Transportation and administered by the City of New Haven Department of City Plan.
