Located within the Downtown Transit Oriented District and at the geographic center of Honolulu’s urban core, this project promises to regenerate both the Chinatown Historic District and the Financial Center. As Phase 2 of the Live Learn Downtown development – Phase 1 is the adaptive reuse of an existing adjacent commercial building into a university science facility – proposes 36 levels of 510 affordable housing units over a new commercial ground plane and open space adjacent to a pedestrian mall and bus transit corridor. Sustainable design strategies include passively ventilated living units, vertical and horizontal photo voltaic systems, rainwater harvesting, vertical gardens, and zero automobile parking.
