Pearl City Public
Library Improvement,
Renovation, and Expansion

Location: 1138 Waimano Home Road, Pearl City, Oahu, Hawaii 96782

Year: 2021- Present

This project is a comprehensive renovation of the existing Pearl City Regional Public Library (b. 1969) and expansion of its grounds to meet the changing needs of its community and the world around it. In addition to the improvement of the library building, DSA designed a new campus around it which features an outdoor courtyard, covered walkway, two new buildings: a Community Center for adult activities and a Learning Center for Pre-Literacy education, and a landscaped parking lot shaded by a PV canopies. A unique feature of this project is the 200-foot-long peristyle structure, a monumental, covered walkway, which connects the parking lot, new buildings, and courtyard with the main library entrance. This complex is designed to meet the State of Hawai ‘i sustainability law (LEED Silver or equivalent) and generate at least 80% of its operating energy from its integrated PV system. The construction of this project is expected to start in 2025.
