Hawaiian Modern is the first major retrospective on the architecture of Vladimir Ossipoff (1907-1998), Hawaii's most important modern architect. Dean Sakamoto was the lead researcher, exhibition curator and editor of a book presenting the research. Materials for the show were drawn form the architect's personal and professional archives, local museum and newspaper archives, and interviews with his family, colleagues, former employees, and clients. The exhibition was designed by DSA and included original drawings, architectural plans, archival photographs, personal ephemera, and 15 architectural models made by DSA. The exhibition premiered in the Honolulu Academy of the Arts in 2007, then was displayed at the Yale Architecture Gallery (2008) and Deutsches Architekturmuseum in Frankfurt, Germany (2009).
