2003 AIA Connecticut Design Award

This design of a new contemporary Asian restaurant in the historic Ninth-Square District of New Haven has become a city landmark. The restaurant has received recognition for its thoughtful use of materials such as its weathered steel elements, milled bamboo surfaces, concrete floors, and recycled paper-pulp wall panels. The irregular shaped outdoor dining pergola creates a lantern-like lighting effect on the street at night. Juror’s Comment from the 2003 AIA Connecticut Awards: "The restaurant evokes the character of Japanese architecture and is powerful in a minimum way. The spirit is there."
