Chapel-Howe Street
Apartments

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Year: 2013-2015

Working in alliance with Beinfield Architecture, DSA took the lead the urban design consultation and site planning aspects for this new six-story 136 rental unit project on Chapel Street, New Haven’s prime urban corridor. The realization of this development fulfills DSA’s recommendation made in its Chapel West Special Services District Vision and Strategic Plan that a mixed-use residential be located at this prominent site.

The Chapel-Howe site is located between the Yale University Arts Area and Yale-New Haven Hospital’s Saint Raphael Campus. From a land use perspective, this project successfully applied the City’s BD-1 zone designation which encourages increased urban density and mixed-use development. Architecturally, this project blends construction economy with a creative contemporary design.
